FCLL parents, players, and families,
Over the past few months we have been monitoring the ongoing situation with COVID -19 and the impact it is having on our daily lives and our league activities. We have been working in conjunction with Little League International, our District 2 leadership, and our local and state government officials to determine a safe and practical way to return to baseball activities.
We realize that our inability to provide a clear path or direction for the Spring/Summer season has been frustrating for many of our members and we apologize for any frustration this may have caused you during these uncertain times. Our goal all along has been to navigate through this crisis and figure out a way to provide our players, families, and community with a much needed relief and find a path back to the resumption of play and participation.
As many of you may be aware Governor Hogan announced that as of this Friday our state is entering phase 2 of our recovery plan. Unfortunately, this announcement does not provide us with a clear path for the resumption of baseball activities. While some jurisdictions are allowing limited activities on their fields, other have announced or indicated that the earliest possible date for field usage would be August 1st. In the jurisdictions where we can gain access we are limited to a total of 10 individuals and social distancing guidelines must be followed. Based on the current status and the uncertainty of when we will be able to resume full baseball activities and games, the Board of Directors has decided to officially suspend the Spring 2020 season.
In the meantime, we are working closely with our District 2 leadership and have a ‘Return to Play’ committee who is preparing guidelines for our leagues to begin a staged return to baseball activities. The goal of this group is to provide a detailed plan that works within the guidance of the CDC, our state and local jurisdictions, and Little League International that will incorporate safety precautions and a staged return that meets the phased recovery plan for the state. We will disseminate this information to the league as it is received and will announce activities as they are scheduled.
We are hopeful that with the assistance of our fantastic Four County Little League volunteers and parents that we will be able to roll out some fun baseball related activities in the near future.
Lastly, as we are suspending the Spring season, we are presenting our league families with several options regarding the disbursement of their registration fees. The options will be listed later in the email and there is a link to a google form below for you to provide your response. Please submit a response for each player you registered for the Spring 2020 season.
Although our league was never able to begin formal team practices or hold games this Spring due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we did incur expenses that we will not be able to recover or have refunded. The Board did take the necessary actions to limit these expenses, such as canceling our uniform order. However, our expenses related to: insurance, $2,500, facilities for winter workouts and evaluations, $3,500, SI Play processing fees, field maintenance, to name a few are not recoverable. As a Board we have determined to absorb the majority of these expenses. However, for those families requesting a refund of their registration fees the league will be retaining the SI Play processing fees associated with your registration and the issuance of your refund. As these fees are based on a percentage of your registration the amount retained will vary by division. Please find the processing fees by division noted below.
We are saddened by the decision to suspend the season and look forward to providing our community, players, and families with a resumption of baseball activities in the near future. Please take the time to fill out and submit the google form survey provided below regarding the disbursement of your Spring 2020 registration fees. In the event we do not receive a response to the survey by July 6th, your registration fees will be deemed as a donation to the league and a donation letter will be provided for tax purposes. We thank you for your continued support of our league and for your patience as we navigate through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 outbreak. Stay healthy and safe.
